Merge duplicate ideas

Two ideas that ask for the same thing split the votes between them. Merging makes them one.

1. Open either idea and find Merge this idea with another in the sidebar.
2. Type a few letters of the other idea's title and pick it from the list.
3. Read the preview. It shows which idea stays, who moves over, and what the totals will be.
4. Under Keep as the main idea, choose which of the two survives.
5. Click Merge.

What happens

• The main idea keeps its title, text, status and address.
• Votes add up. Someone who voted on both is counted once.
• Comments, files and private tags move to the main idea.
• The author of the merged idea becomes a voter on the main one.
• The merged idea's address leads to the main idea from now on.

If status emails are on, the author of the merged idea gets an email saying where their idea now lives.
