Insights: what the feedback adds up to

Where it isInsights

The inbox shows ideas one at a time. Insights shows what they add up to: the problems and requests that come up again and again, what people say they value, and which parts of your product they are about. Every number on the page opens the ideas and the authors’ own words it was counted from.

Turn it on

  1. Open Insights in the top menu.
  2. Click Turn on Insights. An admin of the workspace can do this.
  3. A bar shows the ideas being read. A board of a few hundred ideas takes a few minutes; you can leave the page.

From then on every new idea, and every comment a board visitor leaves on one, is read as it arrives. Turn it off the same way: what was found stays on the page, and nothing new is read until you turn it on again.

Themes, and what sits inside them

The page opens on themes: the parts of your product people talk about, such as Billing or Search. Where your topics fit, a theme takes a topic’s name. A theme is a container. Each card shows the two lists it holds, and clicking the theme opens them.

Inside a themeWhat it lists
ObservationsThe distinct problems and requests in that part of the product. Ideas from different people that ask for the same thing are pooled into one observation, so forty reports of one bug are one row, not forty.
StrengthsWhat people explicitly value there, in their own words. Useful for knowing what to protect and for quoting them.

Observations and Strengths beside Across all themes, at the top of the page, open the same two lists for the whole board in one ranking; each row then names its theme.

Reach

Each observation and strength is ranked by its reach: the number of distinct people behind it, counting the authors of its ideas, everyone who voted for them, and the people quoted from the comments. A person who appears in several ideas is counted once, so reach reflects demand, not noise. Votes that came in through an import without a named voter count as well, once per idea. Companies are counted the same way when the people belong to one.

The bar on each row is relative to the longest bar on the page, so the ranking reads at a glance.

Status

StatusMeaning
EmergingFewer than two people so far: new, not yet confirmed.
ActiveTwo or more people: a recurring insight.
ResolvedSet by a teammate: the underlying problem has been handled.
DismissedSet by a teammate: not actionable. It stays under the Dismissed filter.

Open an observation and click Mark resolved or Dismiss; Reopen puts it back under what reach says. A theme has the same buttons when you open it.

Duplicates

A new piece of feedback joins an existing observation when it asks for the same thing. Sometimes two observations that say the same thing still end up side by side, and the people behind them are split between two rows. Kjerr compares the observations that read alike and asks AI whether each pair is one. Duplicates at the top of the page shows how many pairs wait.

SettingWhat happens to a pair judged the same
Suggest mergesIt waits on the Duplicates page with the AI’s reason and the number of people the two would have together. Merge folds the one with fewer people into the one with more; Keep separate leaves them and the pair is never suggested again.
Merge automaticallyIt is merged as soon as it is found. The Done tab lists every merge with Undo beside it.

An admin picks the setting on the Duplicates page; it starts on Suggest merges. A merge moves the feedback items, so every person is still counted once. Undo brings the observation back with what it had, and that pair stays separate from then on. Pairs that ask for different or opposite things, such as two different integrations, are left alone. Strengths are checked the same way.

Read the evidence

Click a row and the right-hand pane shows the ideas behind it, most voted first, with each feedback item found in the idea and the exact quote it came from. Open in inbox on an idea takes you to it. An idea in the inbox shows the observations and strengths it feeds under its votes.

When an idea was merged into another, the evidence names the ideas it absorbed, so a merged duplicate is not lost. On a board that translates ideas, the evidence titles each idea in the workspace language; with Translate comments automatically on, a quote from a comment appears in the board language.

Filter, sort and export

  • Filter by status (emerging and active by default) and by where the ideas came from: Portal, Added by team, Imported, API.
  • Sort by most people, newest or most ideas.
  • Export CSV downloads the tab as it is filtered.

What is sent out

Idea titles, text and the comments people leave are sent to OpenAI to be read and sorted. Names, email addresses and votes stay in Kjerr. Nothing on the board changes: Insights only reads.
