The free Fider alternative.
Nothing to host. Changelog included.
Choose Kjerr, not Fider. Replace a self-hosted feedback board with a free hosted one that adds a changelog and customer data.
Fider is an open-source feedback board you can run yourself. Kjerr is hosted only, and adds the parts Fider leaves out: announcements, customer data, reports.
A free Fider alternative: every feature, no credit card.
What we're opinionated about
The same small idea, without the server.
Fider calls itself a no-fluff feedback board, and it is. Kjerr shares the taste for small software and takes the operations off your hands.
Nothing to run
Kjerr is hosted. There is no server to patch, no database to back up and no mail delivery to configure before the first status email goes out.
Nobody shouts into a void
A status change or a reply emails the author and every voter, under your name, with a one-click unsubscribe. Closing the loop is the product, not an add-on.
Evidence beside every score
The internal roadmap scores ideas with RICE or your own factors, and keeps the votes, the companies and the MRR behind each idea next to the score. The decision stays with you.
Plain, fast pages
Boards are server-rendered HTML that works without JavaScript, loads in milliseconds and can be crawled, or kept out of search entirely; each board decides.
Feedback board
A free feedback board people actually use.
A public board at yourname.kjerr.io where customers post ideas, vote, comment and attach screenshots and files. Reading and searching need no account; the first post, vote or comment confirms an email once, or users arrive already signed in from your product.
- Duplicates caught mid-sentence. Similar ideas appear while someone types a title, with a vote button beside each.
- Merge that loses nothing. Votes de-duplicate, comments move and the old link redirects.
- A roadmap that follows your statuses. Under consideration, Planned, In Development, Shipped; rename, recolour and reorder them.
- 11 board languages, 15 themes. Each visitor can pick their own language, and ideas can be translated between them automatically.
What a public feedback board needs to work
- Someone asks. Short title, optional detail, up to 5 screenshots.
- Others vote. One click. Votes never send email.
- You triage in one screen. Unread first, keyboard shortcuts, replies, internal notes, private tags.
- Everyone hears back. A status change or a reply emails the author and every voter.
The concrete difference
Shipping is news. Fider has nowhere to post it.
Kjerr's board has three sections: Ideas, Roadmap and Announcements. When something ships, the people who voted are emailed by the status change, and everyone else can read the announcement, react, comment and subscribe by email.
Fider has posts, votes, tags and statuses, and emails people when a status changes. It has no changelog or announcements section; there is no route for one in the source. A roadmap page exists in recent releases, reserved for Pro on Fider's cloud and open when self-hosted, though the pricing page does not mention it.
Kjerr
- Announcements with categories and reactions
- A verified email subscription
- A roadmap on every workspace
- Users & Companies with plan and MRR
Fider
No changelog or announcements. A roadmap page exists in release v0.36 but is Pro-only on the hosted service. No company or revenue data.
Fider pricing vs Kjerr
Free software is not free to run.
Fider is open source under the AGPL-3.0 licence, and that is its great strength. You can read every line, keep your data on your own Postgres, and never pay anyone. Its README is honest about the other side: it is totally free, but you are responsible for everything.
Everything means a Docker host, because no native binaries are distributed; PostgreSQL 12 or newer; an SMTP server or a Mailgun account for the emails; TLS; backups; and upgrades when a release lands. For a team with an operations habit that is an afternoon. For a team without one it is a small system to keep alive for a tool meant to save time.
Fider's hosted service is simple and fair. It is free under a fair-use limit of 250 feedback items, with unlimited voters and members, and $25 a month for Pro, which adds unlimited items, content moderation and search-engine indexing.
Kjerr is hosted only, and closed source. It is free, and any future paid plan will be flat per workspace. If owning the code and the database matters to you, choose Fider; nothing on this page should change your mind. If you want the board without the server, and a changelog with it, that is what Kjerr is for.
Read it at the source: Fider's own pricing page. Kjerr's is at kjerr.io/pricing.

Announcements
A changelog that reaches the people who asked.
Announcements are product update posts on the same board: categories, emoji reactions, comments, search by text and date, and an email subscription that is verified before the first send.
- Sent under your name. Emails go out as your workspace, with a one-click unsubscribe.
- Tied to the ideas. Moving an idea to Shipped already told its author and voters; the post tells everyone else.
- Crawlable. Plain HTML, and each board chooses whether search engines and AI crawlers may index it.
See the release notes tool
Portal sections
- Ideas. Post, vote, comment, search.
- Roadmap. Your statuses as columns.
- Announcements. What shipped, with reactions and comments.
Each section is a switch in settings.
An honest answer
When Fider is the better fit
- You want open-source software, with the code and the licence to prove it.
- Your data must stay on your own servers, in your own database.
- You want your own OAuth provider for sign-in.
- You have the operations habit to run Docker, Postgres and mail delivery.
Both products are reasonable, and they are closer in spirit than most on this list. Fider is the right choice when ownership matters most; Kjerr is for teams that want it hosted, with a changelog and customer data.
And when it isn't
Choose Kjerr over Fider if
- You do not want to run a server for a feedback board.
- You want a changelog and a roadmap next to the ideas.
- You want each voter's company, plan and MRR.
- You want reports on what came in, what shipped and what nobody answered.
- You want each visitor to read the board in their own language.

Migration
How to switch from Fider to Kjerr.
Every comparison page promises an easy migration. Ours is short because Kjerr stores little: ideas, votes, comments, statuses and the people behind them.
- Export from Fider. As a Fider administrator, open the export page and download posts.csv. A full backup zip is there too, if you want to keep an archive.
- Send us the file. Create your Kjerr workspace (about a minute), then email the export. We map its columns to Kjerr's and load it into your board.
- Point your users at the new board. Statuses you used are matched to yours, the roadmap fills itself from them, and single sign-on can be switched on the same day.
The import keeps each idea's title, details, created date, vote count, status and author. Comments and the list of individual voters are not carried over; the vote count is. A changelog from AnnounceKit moves over with every post's text, category, publication date and pictures. There is no self-serve importer yet: a person at Kjerr converts the file and loads it, usually within a working day, and re-running it never duplicates a row. Write to hello@kjerr.io. Questions: hello@kjerr.io
Fider alternative: questions, answered.
What is a hosted alternative to Fider?
Kjerr is a hosted alternative to Fider: a feedback board with voting, duplicate suggestions, merge, a status roadmap, an announcements changelog, customer company and revenue data, reports and status emails. There is nothing to deploy; a board is live about a minute after sign-up.
What does it take to self-host Fider?
Fider's documentation requires Docker, PostgreSQL 12 or newer, and an SMTP server or a Mailgun account for email, plus environment variables for the base URL, database, JWT secret and sender address. You also own TLS, backups and upgrades. Kjerr has no self-hosted edition.
Is Fider's cloud free?
Yes, under a fair-use limit of 250 feedback items, with unlimited voters and members. Pro is $25 a month for unlimited items, content moderation and search-engine indexing. Kjerr is free, with no item limit.
Is Kjerr open source like Fider?
No. Fider is licensed under AGPL-3.0; Kjerr is closed source and hosted only. If open source or self-hosting is a requirement, Fider is the better fit.
Does Fider have a changelog or a roadmap?
Fider has no changelog or announcements. A roadmap page exists in recent releases and is reserved for Pro on the hosted service. Kjerr has both on every workspace, as sections of the same board.
Can I migrate from Fider to Kjerr?
Yes. Download posts.csv from Fider's admin export page and email the file to us; we convert and load it. The import keeps each idea's title, details, created date, vote count, status and author. Comments and the list of individual voters are not carried over; the vote count is. A changelog from AnnounceKit moves over with every post's text, category, publication date and pictures.
What does Fider have that Kjerr does not?
Open source code, self-hosting, custom OAuth providers, a full backup export and about twenty languages. If you need those, Fider is the better fit.
Does Kjerr integrate with Jira, Linear, Slack or Zapier?
Not natively. Kjerr connects to your own product instead: a REST API and signed webhooks, single sign-on with a signed JWT, an Identify API for company, plan and MRR, a JavaScript SDK, and a read-only MCP server for AI assistants. A webhook can post to Slack or open a ticket if you write that step; if a ready-made two-way sync with an issue tracker is essential, Kjerr is not the right tool.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. A board starts at yourname.kjerr.io; under Settings → Custom domain you can move it to an address like feedback.yourcompany.com with one CNAME record. HTTPS is set up for you, and the old address sends visitors to the new one.
Can I remove the Kjerr branding from my board?
Yes, on every workspace and at no cost. Settings has one switch for the “hosted by Kjerr” line and one for the “Create your own free idea board” chip. Emails are sent under your workspace name.
Is single sign-on included?
Yes, on every workspace. Your product signs an HS256 JWT and users arrive on the board logged in, carrying company, plan and MRR. See the SSO and Identify guide.
Can people give feedback without an account?
Reading and searching need no account. The first post, vote or comment confirms an email address once; there is no password to create. With single sign-on, users skip that step as well.
How long does setup take?
About a minute: sign up, confirm your email, name the workspace, and the board is live. There is nothing to install.
Give it a weekend. It's free.
Free to use, nothing to host. Bring your Fider posts.csv and we load it for you.
