How visitors sign in
What a customer has to do before they can post, vote or comment, with and without single sign-on.
Reading and searching a public board needs no account. Posting, voting and commenting need to know who the person is. There are two ways that can work.
Without an integration
- The first time a visitor posts, votes or comments, the board asks them to sign in or create an account: an email, a password and, if they like, a display name.
- Whatever they were doing is finished for them once they are in. A vote they clicked is counted; an idea they wrote is posted.
- The board sends a confirmation link. Notification emails go only to confirmed addresses.
- After that their browser stays signed in.
With single sign-on
Your product signs a short token for each user and they arrive on the board already signed in, with their name and, if you send them, their company, plan and language. Nobody creates a second account, and the board has no sign-up or password pages at all.
Setting it up takes a developer about an hour. The mode is switched under SettingsVoter access, and the steps are in the SSO guide.
On a members-only board
A signed-out visitor is sent to sign in before seeing anything, then lands on the page they asked for. A new account has to confirm its email before it gets in.
